Freemasons and Masonry
by Gregg Allen Trickett, written 05/02/2026 updated 05/14/2026
Freemasonry is a religion incorporating esoteric, mystery and occult practices. Freemasonry hides underneath and mimics various aspects of Judaism and Christianity. It also borrows from Egyptian and Canaanite religions along with Islam and Hinduism. The god of freemasonry is Satan, its craft is witchcraft, and its end is the destruction of the soul. Freemasonry in no manner and by no means is compatible with the worship of the God of Abraham, the profession of faith in Yahweh Jesus Christ or the practice of Christianity.

Three Degrees of Freemasonry
Every Freemason has participated in and accepted the rites and teachings of the first three degrees of freemasonry. The following is taken from the Masonic Monitor of the State of Nevada, 1986. Some bullet points are followed by a Scriptural truth that sheds light on the false teaching of Freemasonry.
1st degree: Entered Apprentice
The ritual of the 'Entered Apprentice' includes the following:
- The man presiding over this ritual is addressed as 'Worshipful Master.'
Yet there is one Master Eph 4:5a - A prayer to the Great Architect of the Universe is offered asking that the principles of Freemasonry subdue their discordant passion and 'so harmonize and enrich our hearts, with Thine own love and goodness.'
- With a rope around his neck and wearing a hood over his head, as a poor and blind candidate, the initiate swears to conform to the usages and customs of Masonic Fraternity.
- The initiate agrees that he is in search of Light in Masonry.
- The initiate kneels before the Sacred Altar of Freemasonry, where a Masonic square and compass are set over and upon a bible, over which he places his right hand in preparation of taking an obligation, an oath: that he will forever conceal the secret arts and hidden mysteries of Freemasonry ... 'binding myself under no less penalty than that of having my throat cut across, my tongue torn out, and with my body buried in the sands of the sea at low-water mark, where the tide ebbs and flows twice in twenty-four hours, should I ever knowingly or willfully violate this, my solemn Obligation of an Entered Apprentice. So help me God and make me steadfast to keep and perform the same.'
- The initiate is presented a lambskin apron as an emblem of his innocence and righteousness before God, a representation of his good works qualifying him to enter heaven.
2nd degree: Fellow Craft
The ritual of the 'Fellow Craft' includes the following:
- The initiate confesses that he wishes for more Light in Masonry through this second degree.
- The initiate again kneels before an altar and his Worshipful Master taking an oath bound under penalty: 'of having my left breast torn open, my heart and vitals taken thence, and with my body given as a prey to the vultures of the air, should I ever knowingly, or willfully, violate this, my solemn Obligation of a Fellow Craft. So help me God and make me steadfast to keep and perform the same.'
- The initiate is taught the Masonic meaning of various symbols in Solomon's temple and bible passages, and is given deeper meanings of previously explained symbols.
- The initiate gains access into the first room of Solomon's Temple, the Holy Place.
3rd degree: Master Mason
The ritual of the 'Master Mason' includes the following:
- The initiate takes a third oath under penalty: 'of having my body severed in twain, my bowels taken thence, and with my body burned to ashes, and the ashes thereof scattered to the four winds of Heaven, that there might remain neither track, trace nor remembrance among man or Masons of so vile and perjured a wretch as I should be ...'
- The initiate, himself representing Hiram Abif (the Masonic Savior), undergoes a baptism and raising into Freemasonry, symbolizing his death to former beliefs and resurrection into the non-Biblical non-Christian religion of Freemasonry.
Yet still there is ... one baptism Eph 4:5b - As Jesus Christ was raised from the dead on the third day, so the newly formed Master Mason was raised from death into the Masonic third degree; by a foreign savior, into another salvation and now professing another faith.
And there is ... one faith Eph 4:5c - Having previously wished for still more Light the initiate, now raised into the degree of a Master Mason, gains access into the innermost room of Solomon's Masonic temple - its own 'Holy of Holies.'
Freemason Teachings That Contradict Scripture
| Masonic Teaching | vs. | Biblical Truth |
|---|---|---|
| The Masonic degrees or rituals teach Masonic Light. | Jesus is the true Light, the Light of the world John 1:9, 8:12. Freemasonry attempts to redefine God's Light, His Son Jesus Christ, whom God sent into the word to explain the Father to the world. "No one has seen God at any time; the only begotten God who is in the bosom of the Father, He has explained Him" John 1:18. | |
| Every Masonic initiate has voluntarily put on a hood covering his head and a rope around his neck; symbolizing he is poor and blind, that he is in darkness and is bound in need of guidance. | A Christian, desiring to enter Freemasonry, can not confess that he is blind or enslaved. The Christian's spiritual eyes have been opened Eph 1:18, and the Christian has already been rescued "from the domain of darkness, and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son" Col 1:13. "For God who said, 'Light shall shine out of darkness,' is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ" 2Cor 4:6. | |
| "No institution was ever raised on a better principle or more solid foundation; nor were ever more excellent rules and useful maxims laid down, than are inculcated in every Masonic degree." [Lightfoot's Manual of the Lodge, p. 33] | "For no man can lay a foundation other than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ" 1Cor 3:11. Freemasonry deceives initiates into digging out God's foundation for belief and replacing it with an ungodly foundation. | |
| To freemasons the Christian Bible is equal to the Koran and the Vedas, both of which "everywhere Masonically conveys the same idea." [Encyclopedia of Freemasonry, 3 vol. ed., Vol. 1, p. 133] | "All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work" 2Tim 3:16-17. | |
| Masonry "reverences all the great reformers. It sees in Moses, the Lawgiver of the Jews, in Confucius and Zoroaster, in Jesus of Nazareth, and in the Arabian Iconoclast, Great Teachers of Morality, and Eminent Reformers, if no more ..." [Morals and Dogma, p. 525]. Jesus' wisdom and teaching is comparable to other great reformers. | "As for you, the anointing which you received from Him abides in you, and you have no need for anyone to teach you; but as His anointing teaches you about all things, and is true and is not a lie, and just as it has taught you, you abide in Him" 1John 2:27. | |
| The god of Freemasonry is universal, having made himself known as god to many religions. | The God of Christianity, YHWH, is One Deu 6:4, and " 'You are My witnesses,' declares the LORD, 'and My servant whom I have chosen, so that you may know and believe Me and understand that I am He. Before Me there was no God formed, and there will be none after Me' " Isa 43:10. | |
| Masons are affiliated with and bound to non-believing Jews and Muslims. Masons have brotherly fellowship and practice worship alongside unbelievers. | "Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness?" 2Cor 6:14. | |
| Masonic author and authority Albert Pike states in the Masonic book Morals and Dogma that a secret name for the god of Freemasonry is 'JAOBULON:' JAO representing Jehovah, BUL for Baal, and ON for Osiris. | "Elijah came near to all the people and said, 'How long will you hesitate between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow Him; but if Baal, follow him.' But the people did not answer him a word" 1Kings 18:21; and "Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever?" 2Cor 6:15. | |
